Chapter 106: Confirmation

Even though Zhang Siyi suspects Gu Yu likes him, he still wanted to confirm whether Gu Yu is gay or not. If there is no evidence that he has this tendency, then love does make one blind. The first point of contact to gather evidence is from his sister, Gu Yao. During New Year’s, he remembered her talking about her brother and her suspicion that her brother was gay.

He quickly grabbed his phone and was going to send a message to her, but he forgot momentarily, that he bought a new phone card specifically to use while he was searching for a new apartment. For the past two days, more than being ‘closed’, like a snail in its shell, he had withdrawn himself further from the outside world.

After he swapped the phone card back to his originally one, Zhang Siyi powered up his phone and waited until it connected to his service provider. When he swiped the screen and opened the phone, he saw a long list of missed calls and messages waiting for him; many of which were from Gu Yu.

There was one call from the day before yesterday, two calls last night, and three call from this morning at noon. When he opened his WeChat text messages, there were many that Gu Yu sent:

Gu Yu: “Do you have time tomorrow?”

Gu Yu: “Are you busy today?”

Gu Yu: “Don’t think too much about the C-City project. I hope you can organize your thoughts as soon as possible.”

             Gu Yu: “[Little fox touches the head]”

“Ahh!” Zhang Siyi hugged his mobile phone, feeling guilty. He quickly gave Gu Yu a ‘Crying Kitten Selling Cuteness’ emoji and sent a message: “I’m sorry. I only just saw your messages now.”

Even though he hasn’t fully confirmed Gu Yu likes him yet, Zhang Siyi wanted talk to Gu Yu more.

Gu Yu immediately replied and didn’t mention the previous incident. He only asked: “Did you eat yet?”

Zhang Siyi: “I already ate.”

Gu Yu: “What did you have?”

Zhang Siyi: “Baked sausage, simmered chicken rice balls, wonton soup.”

Gu Yu: “Oh. An appetite is very good. [Little fox touches the head]”

Lying on his pillow, holding his mobile phone, chit-chatting with Gu Yu made Zhang Siyi flushed and feel happy. Like a man walking in a desert for a long time, hungry and thirsty, exhausted and desperate, feeling dead, and then being resurrected upon drinking the first cup of water from an oasis.

Noticing the time on the clock is past office hours, Zhang Siyi asked Gu Yu: “Are you off work?”

Gu Yu: “Not yet. Since this afternoon’s work hasn’t been completed, I’m working late.”

Zhang Siyi: “I’m sorry…”

Knowing Gu Yu’s overtime is all Zhang Siyi’s fault, he would punch himself if he could.

Living with Gu Yu is not an illusion.

The experience of that night he spent at Gu Yu’s house last year left a very deep impression on Zhang Siyi. Gu Yu couldn’t help but give a lengthy sigh: “Yesterday’s matter, I have told you, when you have a work problem, come to me for help. Life is the same…… I won’t give up on you.”

Zhang Siyi thought it strange. There is no way under normal circumstance that a boss would tell his subordinate that they ‘won’t give up on them in life’. Zhang Siyi’s heart was warming in his chest, but he was unsure if there was any meaning to his statement or not. He quietly questioned: “Because you promised my father that you would take care of me?”

Until this moment, Zhang Siyi felt completely relieved. Although he still has some lingering issues with Tao Fei, with Gu Yu’s explanation, Zhang Siyi no longer was stupid enough to be jealous over him.

Apart from Zhang Siyi own room, they cleaned up the rest of the apartment that afternoon. Although it is decided for Zhang Siyi to live with Gu Yu, it was too late to move tonight. The two agreed to make the final move on the weekend.
