Chapter 142: Plans

In the afternoon, Zhang Siyi and Tao Fei continued to refine the designs for the tourism hotel project. Even though Party A chose an overall more conservative scheme with mostly non-curvilinear buildings, they wanted to retained some of the more unique rounded buildings. While Zhang Siyi was responsible for working on the holiday villas, Tao Fei was developing the main focus of the project; the large-scale integrated hotel. Before the 20^th of next month, they will have to travel to Party A and make a status report of the project.

Even if they were working diligently, it seems like no one else was. Everyone was caught up in the excitement over the planned company trip to Japan.

Bi Lele: “Have you heard of Shinjuku Ni-Chome in Tokyo?”

Zhu Hongzhen excitedly responded: “Isn’t that the red-light district?”

Squinting at Bi Lele, Yuan Zhicheng said: “Are you so hungry that you need to find a rent-boy there?”

Bi Lele glared at him coldly: “Kabukichou is the place for that. Ni-Chome is the famous gay-district in Tokyo.”

Wide eyed, Yuan Zhicheng looked at Zhu Hongzhen in surprise: “You have heard about it already….? You know a lot.”

Zhu Hongzhen’s eyes twitched: “I remembered it wrong…”

Smirking, Bi Lele teased them: “If you “older sisters” go hang out there at night, I guess you all will be picked up by men, especially Auntie Four.”

Zhang Siyi: “……” He is clearly minding his own business working so why are they involving him!”

Yuan Zhicheng: “You think too much. Didn’t Boss say we are going to visit various architectural sites for educational purposes? I don’t think we will go to any strange places.”

Zhu Hongzhen nodded in recognition: “Yeah, that’s true. Although, I would love to go to Akihabara and get a coffee at a maid café for the experience.

Zhang Siyi looked up with excitement: “Ah, Akihabara? Isn’t that where all the anime merchandise is sold?”

Zhu Hongzhen: “That’s right!  Have you heard of it, too?”

Once a big fan of anime, how could Zhang Siyi not know about Akihabara. The topic quickly diverged and everyone started talking about their favorite anime. He fondly remembered One Piece and Hunter X Hunter.

Interrupting, Yuan Zhicheng reminded them again: “Didn’t I just say we are going for work purposes.”

In their hearts, everyone let out a collective sigh: “How good would it be If only we could go play.”

In the evening, Zhang Siyi and Gu Xiao returned home. In order to compensate for last night’s “service”, Gu Yu personally cooked dinner for Zhang Siyi. Even so, Zhang Siyi continued to follow Gu Yu around the kitchen and helped him prepare the food.

Zhang Siyi: “Today everyone was talking about the fun things to do in Japan. Has the itinerary been planned?”

As the fish was left to cook in the pot, Gu Yu continued to prepare the vegetables and said: “Let’s take a look at the options later and make a plan. Then I can talk to Tong Heyi for feedback. Recently, she has been busy with a project and didn’t have the energy to make an itinerary for the company trip. As a result, she left it up to me to decide which destinations we will go to.”

After dinner, both Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu went upstairs to research places for the company Trip. Gu Yu went into his room to grab a notebook then made tea. After slicing some fruit, he poured two cups of tea then sat down on the tatami mats alongside Zhang Siyi.

Japan’s architectural community is very famous internationally. From 1979 to the present, there are six winners of the Pulitzer Prize. In contrast to the situation in China, where there are few well-known architectural masters, Japanese modernity has brought together many world-renowned architectural masters from a variety of genres and styles.

During Zhang Siyi undergraduate studies, the modern architecture professors often used examples of the works by Japanese masters like Ando’s Church of Light and Kurokawa’s National Art Center for their lecture topics.

In addition to modern architecture, Japan also has many famous ancient buildings. Although there are some similarities to Chinese Tang Dynasty architecture, there are some historical changes that have made the buildings culturally different. In addition, the Japanese have gone through greater lengths to preserve their ancient buildings more than the Chinese have and as a result, they are quite amazing to visit.

Zhang Siyi was only familiar with a few Japanese architects and famous buildings. After half an hour of research, he realized his knowledge was just the tip of an iceberg and discovered in reality, that were an abundance of famous buildings all over Japan. A ten-day trip wasn’t enough!

Looking at the information, Zhang Siyi grabbed his head and said: “There are so many places to go! I have no clue anymore!” Then he collapsed on the table.

“Don’t worry.” Gu Yu leaned over and surrounded Zhang Siyi from behind then softly said: “Let me see what you have found so far.”

Looking at the laptop, Zhang Siyi pointed them out to him: “There are unique architectural sites all over the four main islands of Japan as well as the many well-preserved ancient sites in different regions, let alone the number of buildings to see in Tokyo. Ten days is simply not enough!

“Who said we will travel all over Japan in ten days?” Gu Yu leaned over and kissed Zhang Siyi on the ear then smiled. He methodically used the mouse and scrolled through some of the information. Without rushing, he gently encouraged him: “Come, first pick out the place you want to visit the most.”

Calming down, Zhang Siyi steadied his breath: “Osaka…. Ah, no. It’s still Tokyo.

“Good.” Gu Yu made a mark on the computer, and then looked at the information that Zhang Siyi was looking for. “If you would like to visit all the famous buildings in Tokyo, it will take at least three or four days.”

Zhang Siyi: “Ah? So long?”                     

Gu Yu turned to the side and smiled at him: “It would probably take longer. Even though Haicheng doesn’t have many famous buildings, it still took me a year to visit the few in the city. You can’t eat a big watermelon in one bite. Its better to eat it slowly and savor the flavor.”

Recalling his past experience with Gu Yu examining architectural features made Zhang Siyi start to worry. With Gu Yu’s workaholic temperament and studious personality, will he expect everyone to treat the time in Japan with the same attention to detail?

Fortunately, Gu Yu went on to say: “Although I mentioned our primary reason for traveling was to examine Japanese architecture as a learning experience, I can’t ignore the fact that we are traveling as a group and need to maintain everyone’s welfare. There will be opportunities to go on tours and have fun as well.”

While turning his head towards Gu Yu, Zhang Siyi enthusiastically said: “Great!” He impulsively grabbed Gu Yu’s face and planted a kiss on him then let him go. He returned his attention to the computer screen and pumped his fist. Then he thought about how much fun he and his colleagues will all have. Certainly, his colleagues will be very happy.

When Gu Yu was kissed, he was stunned and pretend to stay calm. However, he wasn’t able to stay calm for more than a few seconds. He released the mouse and twisted his body to capture Zhang Siyi and pressed him onto the floor.

 “Ah! What are you doing? The plans… mm-hm!”

 “…… We’ll talk about it later.”

 “Mm-hmm.……”

Plans? Gu Yu narrowed his eyes. –This elder brother will make plans with you first.

Chapter 141: Real Fake Act

Hearing Gu Yu announcement, Zhang Siyi heart skipped a beat and quickly stared at Gu Yu wide eyed in surprise. Before turning into his office, Gu Yu smiled at him.

Shit! Gu Yu was so daring that he chose him directly. Is he not afraid of their colleagues’ misunderstandings?

Even though Zhang Siyi was worried about it, his colleagues really didn’t seem to care. Rather, it was expected. Perhaps, Gu Yu did not want to play the game. However, he also didn’t want to spoil their fun and therefore he chose a boy. Zhang Siyi was the company’s mascot and everyone saw their good relationship during the annual festival so it didn’t seem unnatural for Zhang Siyi to be picked.

The same is true for the female colleagues. On one hand, since their opportunity was taken away, they were a little depressed, but on the other hand, they also felt relieved. After all, if Gu Yu really choose a female colleague, it will definitely cause problems. Only by selecting a male colleague could everyone coexist peacefully.

Even if there wasn’t a misunderstanding, the girls couldn’t stop themselves from staring at Zhang Siyi.

When Zhang Siyi heard Gu Yu, several watchful female colleagues caught Zhang Siyi show a ‘shy’  expression. They all covered their mouths and laughed. Bi Lele caught Zhang Siyi by surprise and said: “Hey, Auntie Four, why are you so shy!”

Smiling, Xu Jia also followed suite: “It seems that the boss really likes you!”

Du Rui held his face with both hands and squished his cheeks: “I’m so jealous. I wish I was a boy!”

Even Zhu Hongzhen followed up and happily joked: “Congratulations! You are favored by the boss again!”

Zhang Siyi can’t tell whether they were joking or if they really could see their true relationship. Feeling a bit nervous and helpless, Zhang Siyi turned red.

Bi Lele sniggered: “Wow, why is your face red? Ha-ha-ha! Are you a kid? What funny reactions!”

The last comment brought Zhang Siyi over the top and was finally provoked. He raised his voice to state: “It’s already after nine and no one is working!”

The crowd laughed while returning to their respective desks. He could still hear some of the girls whispering about the couples’ game. When everyone walked away, Zhang Siyi sat down at his desk and brought up the internal chat program on his computer. He selected Gu Yu’s icon and as he channeled his energy into typing out his message, he made a series of loud clicking noises: “How can you say that in front of everyone!? What are we going to do if they guess the true nature of our relationship?”

Gu Yu: “Don’t you want the privilege of a boyfriend?”

Zhang Siyi: “…”

Gu Yu: “I made a reservation this time, so I don’t have to be robbed again.” 🙂

Zhang Siyi: “…….”

Gu Yu: “Well, those female colleagues just wanted to tease you. Act naturally and don’t worry about it. Now, get to work.”

Zhang Siyi: “…………”

In recent days after their joint project, Zhang Siyi and Tao Fei often ate together at lunch time. Carrying his Bento, Tao Fei selected an empty table and sat down with Zhang Siyi. Not more then a couple bites of food reached Zhang Siyi stomach before Tao Fei spoke: “The girls told me about the couples’ game this morning.”

Zhang Siyi: “I heard them talking. Who did you choose?”

Tao Fei: “No one yet. How am I supposed to choose when there are four girls?”

Zhang Siyi: “…” God Damn! Four choices aren’t enough? Tao Fei already has the second-best treatment from the girls in the design team. Thinking about it made Zhang Siyi feel irritated. He is obviously a man, but because of his nick-name, he felt cheated. They labeled him as a girl and thus, he had to wait until someone picked him instead of choosing for himself.

“I heard that Gu Yu selected you.” Tao Fei glanced at him mischievously: “He is bold enough.  Don’t end up revealing the secret.”

With his eyes darting around the room like a small frightened animal, Zhang Siyi held a finger up to his lips and directed a “Shhh” at Tao Fei.

Tao Fei laughed at his ‘shush-ing’ antics: “There is no use in shush-ing me. In the company, I don’t think anyone has noticed. In the morning, the girls were saying my brother still treated you well like always.”

Zhang Siyi was feeling a little guilty: “I think it will be OK.”

Tao Fei turned a blind eye: “Is it okay?  Don’t you feel like the way Gu Yu looks and speaks to you is different than anyone else?

Zhang Siyi nervously questioned: “Where is there a difference?”

In a long drawn out, exaggerated tone, Tao Fei explained: “Ahh, the gentle, lingering eyes and the tender voice….It gives me goosebumps!”

Zhang Siyi: “He does not!”

Pausing a moment in thought, Tao Fei stirred his food then said: “But I wouldn’t worry about it so much. I think Gu Yu may have deliberately wanted to play real-fake-act with you.”

Zhang Siyi said: “What do you mean? What is the real-fake-act?”

Tao Fei explained: “In fact, when we were at Big T, we were considered a couple.”

Zhang Siyi remembered Tao Fei’s social media page where he posted pictures of Gu Yu and him together when his classmates asked for them.

Reminiscing, Tao Fei laughed out loud and said: “Especially some of the rotten girls from the architecture department. They started a forum and posted candid pictures of us together.”

Zhang Siyi:”……!”  Is there such a thing? He’s going to get jealous again!

Tao Fei went on: “Even though we didn’t have an intimate relationship we played it up sometimes for the girls. Neither of us were dating so it wasn’t a big deal. The jokes never got out of hand and besides, Gu Yu never cared about gossip anyway.”

Zhang Siyi was deep in thought. Indeed, he and Fu Xinhui were often passed on as a pair. Although it used to bother him, as Tao Fei said, if the person does not care, being misunderstood will neither affect their friendship nor their respective lives.

Tao Fei: “However, if the person being joked about has a relationship with someone else already, then it’s not appropriate.”

Zhang Siyi nodded. It’s no wonder that Tao Fei later deleted the photo of him and Gu Yu.

Tao Fei said: “Gu Yu may want to create this illusion with you in front of our colleagues. If you deliberately let everyone think of you both as a pair, then the more frank you are, the more people will take it as a joke.  In contrast, the more careful and nervous you are, then the more suspicious you become and your true relationship will be revealed.”

Zhang Siyi: ” !!! ” makes sense!

Under the pretext by Gu Yu’s actions that Tao Fei explained let Zhang Siyi feel more secure and thus, less nervous about exposing their relationship.

After swallowing his mouthful of food, Tao Fei said: “That being said, I believe that the couple game was a plan devised by a male colleague who had ulterior motives because they like someone in the company. Deliberately playing the game would let him cover up his true intentions.”

As Zhang Siyi was going to say something more, Ji Feiyu sat down next to them with his lunch box. Zhang Siyi retracted his thoughts.

Ji Feiyu: “You guys look so happy. What are you talking about?”

Zhang Siyi repeated what Tao Fei said to Ji Feiyu.

Smiling, Ji Feiyu chuckled: “Hey, you saw through me!”

Stunned, Zhang Siyi stared at Ji Feiyu. Thinking about this morning again, he realized the person who proposed the couples game idea was in fact Ji Feiyu.

Grinning, Tao Fei curiously inquired: “So who is it? Du Rui?”

Ji Feiyu shyly said: “Shhh! Don’t say anything!”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Tao Fei guessed it again? Nothing can hide this Fat Peach’s eyes!  (→_→)

Tao Fei said: “There is no use in shush-ing me. Well, I often see you sharing food and treating her nicely. Maybe she will be able to feel it!”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Deja-vu! (=_=)

Ji Feiyu panicked: “Is it so obvious?”

Tao Fei nodded: “Yes.”

Since Tao Fei was the only one to notice, Zhang Siyi wasn’t so sure.

Wanting to explain it further, Ji Feiyu eagerly talked to them: “It wasn’t just Du Rui. I didn’t want to single her out so I also passed along some treats to others and as a result it got more people involved to share together.

Tao Fei: “But even though you shared with her, because there were many others afterwards, it makes it seem like you were never sincere in the beginning.”

Ji Feiyu.：“……”

 Zhang Siyi is also stunned to hear Tao Fei as he could perceive this little detail.  Shit! He is really impressed with the Fat Peach!

Tao Fei scoffed: “If you want a real relationship then why bother suggesting the couples’ game? What kind of foresight is that!?”

Scratching his head, Ji Feiyu admitted: “I’m afraid of being rejected. Since we work together in the same office, it would be really embarrassing and awkward.”

Zhang Siyi interjected: “Chicken brother, I don’t want to burst your bubble, but doesn’t Du Rui like Gu Yu?”

When Zhang Siyi first started his job at the company, he had a really favorable impression of Du Rui. Later, when they became more familiar, she admitted to liking the Boss. The last thing he expected was to be her love rival and was now with Gu Yu. Life can be so unpredictable!

Ji Feiyu sighed, helpless: “Hey, I already know this. In our group, which girl does not like the Boss?”

Tao Fei suddenly stuck up his index finger and moved it back and forth: “No, No, No! You are mistaken. That isn’t love or like. The girls simply worship him like an idol for fun as some do with me. I firmly believe that the girls in our department are very sensible. They know the difference.”

Ji Feiyu laughed out loud at Tao Fei comment then smiled:” Yeah, fortunately Boss choose Aunt Four this morning. What a relief!”

Zhang Siyi: “……” What? Ji Feiyu reaction is… normal?

Ji Feiyu looked at Tao Fei and said: “But they are still waiting for you to choose someone!”

Tao Fei said: “Well, Joe Sister should be alright. I won’t bother playing the couples game. If you mistakenly give a girl the illusion of love, it is very troublesome.”

Ji Feiyu said with gratitude: “Thank you, thank you! I misjudged You!”

Gesturing his hand back and forth, Tao Fei said: “It’s not a problem.”

After Ji Feiyu left, Tao Fei whispered to Zhang Siyi: “Actually, I feel like Du Rui is also interested in him.”

If Tao Fei had mentioned this previously, Zhang Siyi wouldn’t have believed him. However, now that he had witnessed the ‘Peach-Eyes’, whatever love affair Tao Fei speculates, then it must be true!

 Tao Fei also asked Zhang Siyi: “Are you familiar with Joe Sister? He is also rather handsome, but he is usually very quiet.”

Zhang Siyi recalled the business trip he has with Lu Qiao and didn’t have any problems with him. He nodded: “He should be a good roommate.”

One person is the self-proclaimed Old-Lady of the company and the other is the longhaired Lady of the company. Zhang Siyi thought these two could certainly get along!

Chapter 140: Privilege

Not only was Zhang Siyi’s wishful thinking smashed to pieces, but he was also classified as a girl!

He felt very unhappy, but in such a public occasion, Zhang Siyi had no reason to refuse the request. He glanced at Gu Yu in hopes that he would say something casually and make some type of excuse in his favor.

But then, Tao Fei took advantage of the situation and shouted: “Hey, then I’ll stay with my brother!”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Dead fat peach! I will deal with you! (╯‵□’)╯(┻━┻

After that, the other colleagues in the room also formed pairs.

Zhang Siyi was sullen all the way home. Before they arrived at the outer door, Gu Yu reached out and pulled his ear. Knowing something was bothering him, he asked: “What’s the matter?”

Zhang Siyi raised his eyebrows and tempered his temper: “Why didn’t you tell me about the company’s travel beforehand?”

Gu Yu simply explained: “I wanted it to be a surprise along with your colleagues.”

Zhang Siyi was depressed: “You didn’t have to mention the pairs.”

Gu Yu raised an eyebrow: “What’s done, is done.”

Getting angrier, Zhang Siyi wanted to yell at Gu Yu. –How can he be so calm? Doesn’t he regret the current development?

Moving away, he strode forward quickly and left Gu Yu behind spitefully saying: “Yes, you always know exactly what to do. Then go stay with Tao Fei!”

Gu Yu caught up and grabbed his arm, stopping him and sighed: “Zhang Siyi, why are you acting like this?”

Zhang Siyi’s anger suddenly overflowed: “What?” Gu Yu even addressed him by his surname!

Gu Yu frowned and asked: “What are you so angry about? That I’m not rooming with you? But at the dinner table, Lu Qiao and Tao Fei have already spoken up. That’s not something I can control.”

Zhang Siyi: “……” What the hell! Why is Gu Yu so dense?

Some people on the roadside have been watching them. Zhang Siyi wanted to jerk away from Gu Yu’s grasp, but he held onto Zhang Siyi firmly. Gu Yu demanded: “Stop and make it clear!”

Zhang Siyi loudly shouted: “I’m mad at you for not telling me in advance!”

Gu Yu: “Didn’t I just explain it? I wanted it to be a surprise for you and your colleagues.”

Zhang Siyi replied quickly: “Like hell it’s a surprise. Everyone else had already guessed it, but I didn’t know.”

A moment of confusion flashed on Gu Yu’s face. Now with furrowed brows, Gu Yu suddenly raised his voice: “Because of this small matter, you are angry with me? What do you want? To tell you everything in the future? Have you forgotten our agreement? I won’t give you special treatment at work.”

Zhang Siyi lashed out: “What about staying and working with me until ten o’clock last week!? Is that not special treatment!?”

Gu Yu defended himself: “This and that are two different things.”

Zhang Siyi interrupted him: “Yes, yes. You always have had your reasons! You have defined public and private matters. Have you ever considered my feelings!? I just wanted a little boyfriend privilege!”

Startled by Zhang Siyi explosive admission, Gu Yu’s reaction eased up, his expression softened and gently said: “You……”

With red eyes and a violently heaving chest, Zhang Siyi tried to jerk himself away from Gu Yu and stated: “Let go!”

However, Gu Yu did not let go. Instead, for the remaining hundred meters to the door, Gu Yu pulled Zhang Siyi quickly along. Once inside their house, he wrapped both arms around Zhang Siyi and held onto him. Gasping for air, Gu Yu apologized: “I’m sorry. I didn’t consider your feelings.”

Even though Zhang Siyi gave Gu Yu an honest answer, Gu Yu still lectured him. Putting up a front and trying to ignore him, Zhang Siyi turned his head to the side. – I don’t want to talk to you for a half an hour!

Gu Yu went over to kiss him, but Zhang Siyi was still angry and turned his head to the other side, avoiding Gu Yu.

….. Speak and kiss. I can’t do it when I’m angry! However, Gu Yu didn’t let Zhang Siyi get away. In another moment, Gu Yu caught his lips and kissed Zhang Siyi deeply.

“Mmm…, Ahh….!” Shit. No fair!

Holding onto Zhang Siyi, Gu Yu coaxed his lips open and inserted his tongue into Zhang Siyi hot mouth. After a few minutes, when he felt Zhang Siyi start to relax, he knew his temper had cooled down. Gu Yu released his lips and with his forehead against Zhang Siyi’s forehead he looked right into Zhang Siyi eyes and softly said: “Who was it a few days ago that said we aren’t allowed to have any more cold wars? Are you going to break the rules? Huh, puppy?”

Zhang Siyi stepped back and blurted out: “You are the puppy!”

Looking at his hot-tempered lover with moistened lips, Gu Yu regained his hold on Zhang Siyi and pulled him close. While embracing him, Gu Yu smiled weakly and leaned his head against Zhang Siyi shoulder than sighed: “Love is really difficult….”

Zhang Siyi: “…”

Speaking softly, Gu Yu expressed his private thoughts: “I originally thought that if we have rules, then life will proceed step-by-step according to the plan. As long as we are both tolerant of each other, we won’t have any disagreements.

How is it possible not to argue? Quarreling, compromising… learning to be with another person…. Isn’t that, what love was about?

Although, Zhang Siyi didn’t expect it to be so frequent. This morning, Zhang Siyi woke up feeling refreshed and full of love. The last thing he thought would happen, would be another argument just twelve hours later.

Gu Yu sighed. It wasn’t until now that he realized that love isn’t so simple. He was always unwittingly doing something that displeased his lover. Rational thought escaped him. When Zhang Siyi ignored him, he wasn’t happy. When Zhang Siyi argued with him, he got agitated. When Zhang Siyi wasn’t well, Gu Yu still suffers.

“It’s my fault.” Gu Yu said feeling somewhat frustrated and helpless. “Maybe, I really don’t know how to fall in love.”  For the first time, this confident man admitted his imperfections. “You have more experience than I do. When I make a mistake will you teach me the correct way in the future?” Gu Yu whispered to Zhang Siyi.

Listening to Gu Yu affectionate monologue, Zhang Siyi let go of his anger all at once. He slowly reached around Gu Yu and held him tightly. Apologetically, he said: “I shouldn’t be so angry. In fact, I just wanted to stay with you. If you had told me about the trip in advance, we could have tweaked the outcome a little without effecting work, right? But you openly announced it at dinner, so there wasn’t time to think of anything.”

Gu Yu asked: “So, it’s not really about telling the plan in advance. If we were able to stay together, you wouldn’t be so upset?”

Zhang Siyi looked down and buried his head on Gu Yu then confessed: “Yes.”

Gu Yu: “What about the privileges of your boyfriend?”

Zhang Siyi clung to him and declared hesitantly: “I want that too.”

Gu Yu: “……”
