Chapter 118: Missed

Although Zhang Siyi knows there isn’t anything going on, he can’t help but feel upset!! Scrolling down, Zhang Siyi found another photo with Gu Yu from last month when Tao Fei first started with the company. It looks like they were at lunch and Gu Yu was bowing down studying the menu, gently smiling. The note read: “Even after so many years after graduation, your male god looks as handsome as ever.”

By reading the messages, it wasn’t hard for Zhang Siyi to infer what happened. Their classmates probably asked Tao Fei to take pictures of Gu Yu and post them for all to see.

Looking through Tao Fei posts, Zhang Siyi was surprised at how many selfies and messages he posts. It appears that he updated his status every day.

Closing the WeChat app, Zhang Siyi put away his phone and forced himself to calm down and focus on his work. At the end of the workday, Zhang Siyi went to the subway station and sat down on a bench at the platform to wait for Gu Yu. He received a message from him telling Zhang Siyi that he was going to be fifteen minutes longer.

In order to avoid the potential speculation from colleagues, Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu agreed to leave the company separately but wait at the station. If by chance they were spotted on the train together, they could easily pass it off as happenstance.

While waiting for Gu Yu to arrive, Zhang Siyi was getting a little bored of the mobile game he was playing. Staring at the screen, Zhang Siyi felt a hot thing suddenly touch his cheek. Thinking it was Gu Yu, he joyously smiled, looked up and said: “What are you doing?”

However, when Zhang Siyi looked up, his face froze because it wasn’t Gu Yu. Instead, it was Tao Fei and he was holding a hot cup of coffee; the things he used to touch his face.

Tao Fei joked: “Who are you waiting for?”

Zhang Siyi turned to anger: “No one.”

Tao Fei: “No one? Two trains already went by but you didn’t get on.”

Since Haicheng is a large urban center, the pace of life is fast. During the peak period, subway cars arrive at the platform approximately every 5 minutes. As it is rush-hour, there are throngs of people coming and going and there really isn’t a reason for someone like Zhang Siyi to be sitting around and waiting.

However, since Tao Fei brought up this point, it means he must have been watching Zhang Siyi secretly and he himself wasn’t getting on a train. Otherwise, how would Tao Fei know how many trains Zhang Siyi missed?

Since he was caught off-guard, Zhang Siyi was nervous and was acting a bit odd: “Why didn’t you get on the train?”

Surprisingly, Tao Fei bluntly stated: “I’m watching you.”

On high alert, Zhang Siyi asked: “Why are you looking at me?”

Tao Fei laughed and said: “To see when you leave.”

“…… You must be bored.” Standing up silently, Zhang Siyi took a step back and kept a distance from him.

Tao Fei took a sip of coffee and squinted at him: “Oh, now you move?”

“Hmm.” Zhang Siyi is dying and Gu Yu still hasn’t come! If he doesn’t leave first, then it will be too awkward if Gu Yu shows up now.

Just as Zhang Siyi was going to say goodbye, Tao Fei interrupted him: “Since you are living with my Brother, why don’t you leave work together?”

Dumbfounded, Zhang Siyi was internally panicking. He was not good a lying! He already tried to dodge Tao Fei question the first time and now he was asked something else. Racking his brain, he replied: “He still has work to do.”

A thought suddenly came to Zhang Siyi’s mind. – Tao Fei, is it possible that he secretly loves Gu Yu?

Even though he and Gu Yu are already together, Tao Fei doesn’t know. With his curiosity and close attention, is it possible that Tao Fei is trying to guess what type of relationship Zhang Siyi has with Gu Yu? Now, as a result, Tao Fei is considering him as a potential ‘love-rival’?

Also, when Tao Fei, with his eccentric neither male or female beauty stands with Gu Yu, they look like a gay couple. When Tao Fei posts such tender looking photos of himself with Gu Yu on his social media pages, is it not to declare his sovereignty to the outside world?

The more Zhang Siyi thought about it, the more hostile he became towards Tao Fei. He needs to back off!  As much as Zhang Siyi wanted to blurt out the truth, he also knows Tao Fei is loud and flamboyant character. Tao Fei doesn’t seem to understand other people’s limits. Zhang Siyi believes if Tao Fei learned the truth it would spur him to be more aggressive in his pursuit of Gu Yu. …… Oh shit!  Absolutely-cannot-stimulate-him! Besides, what if I guessed wrong?

For a few weeks, Zhang Siyi’s brain was like a washing machine on the spin cycle; spinning frantically then finally coming to a stop with exhaustion.

Lost in his thoughts, Zhang Siyi noticed the subway car approaching the platform. He quickly spoke to Tao Fei: “I’ll take my leave” and hurriedly got into the train car.

Tao Fei: “…..”

After the door was closed, Zhang Siyi was relieved. He turned to look out the window to see if Tao Fei was still there. Unexpectedly, he saw Gu Yu coming down on the escalator. As the train doors closed, he caught a glimpse of Gu Yu looking at him, seemingly in deep thought. —I thought you said you’d wait for me? Why did you get in the car?

Zhang Siyi wanted to cry without tears – help! let me out! As the train sped away, Zhang Siyi also saw Gu Yu turn his attention to Tao Fei.

With the blood drained from his face, Zhang Siyi was so angry that he wanted to break out of the train and kick Tao Fei!

Raising his hand in greeting, Tao Fei said: “Ah Brother, are you finished with work? I just met Zhang Siyi at the station and talked with him for a few minutes.” Tao Fei pointed at the train leaving and laughed: “Unfortunately, he just left.”

“What did you talk to him about?” Gu Yu frowned.

“Ah nothing really. I asked him what he was waiting for.” Tao Fei said and then asked with a puzzled expression: “Aren’t you living together now? Why don’t you go home together?”

Calming down, Gu Yu paused for a second then explained: “Even if we live together, our work hours might not coincide.”

When the train on the other side of the platform pulled in from the opposite direction, Tao Fei waved and left: “Then I will go first. See you tomorrow.”

Gu Yu: “…well, goodbye.”

Watching Tao Fei leave, Gu Yu pulled out his mobile phone that had been vibrating non-stop from of his trouser pocket. Zhang Siyi sent Gu Yu a number of WeChat messages.

Zhang Siyi: “[Kitten Crashes]”

Zhang Siyi: “I am already on the train!”

Zhang Siyi: “I just saw you come down!”

Zhang Siyi: “[Kitten crying]”

Zhang Siyi: “I’ll wait for you at the next stop!

Zhang Siyi: “[Cry] [Cry] [Cry]

Amused by Zhang Siyi’s flirty cries, Gu Yu laughed joyously and retuned a ‘Little Fox Kiss’ expression “I am coming. Wait for me.”

Five minutes later, the second subway train slowly pulled into the next station platform. Looking through the window of the door, Gu Yu saw Zhang Siyi across the glass looking sad and resentful. Having been forced apart, he felt like the stars Altair and Vega.

For three and half days, they have been separated and now they finally stand side by side. However, because they were in public and therefore, constrained by societal norms, they can’t express their love like a regular couple; no holding hands, no hugging. The inability to express their love makes it very difficult for Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu.

When Zhang Siyi got back into the train car, he was crammed together with Gu Yu. For once, they were thankful for the crowd during the rush-hour as it created the opportunity to be pressed together.

With eyes full of both joy and sorrow, Zhang Siyi gazed at Gu Yu. Gu Yu was also watching Zhang Siyi with affection. As Gu Yu quietly took Zhang Siyi hand, he maneuvered his body to block peoples’ view of their entwined fingers.

Even with this simple action, Zhang Siyi’s eyes lit up and he smiled broadly. Squeezing Gu Yu’s hand, he could feel the warmth. Like a drowning man being offered a piece of driftwood to grab onto, all of Zhang Siyi’s grievances and depression disappeared in an instant!

With both heartache and relief, Gu Yu sighed.

Zhang Siyi whispered: ” It’s just Tao Fei….”

Gu Yu interrupted him in a low voice: “Tell me when we leave the station.”

Zhang Si Yi nodded and obediently shut his mouth.

With only four short stops on the route, Yuanshan Garden is fortunately close to the company. As they walked up the staircase to the sidewalk, Zhang Siyi eagerly complained: “I met Tao Fei at the subway station! He guessed that I was waiting for someone. I was afraid he would figure out that I was waiting for you so I jumped onto the incoming train car. Damn it!”

Gu Yu smiled at him and said: “The next time he asks again, just admit that you are waiting for me.”

Zhang Siyi hurriedly replied: “But what if he figures out that we are together?”

Gu Yu: “Even if he figured it out, let him guess. Although he is a high-profile person, he won’t gossip about it.”

Zhang Siyi: “Oh …”

Gu Yu’s attitude made Zhang Siyi feel relieved. He asked: “How are the bids going this time?”

Gu Yu: “It’s going well. The plan Tao Fei previously made was rejected, but luckily, there was time to make changes. Tao Fei drafted a design with changes, but the results are still uncertain. It will depend on board of directors’ support and some luck.

Zhang Siyi: “Do we have support?”

“Is he one of your friends?” Seeing Gu Yu nod, Zhang Siyi wondered: “Since it’s a friend, why are you still uncertain?”

Gu Yu: “The board has more than one member. There are shareholders, investors, government representatives…. Everyone has their own position and vision and that friend only represents one of them.”

Zhang Siyi: “So complicated!”

Gu Yu smiled and patted his back: “Take it one step at a time. First, let’s start with the design and later, worry about the board of directors.”

Chapter 117: Handsome and Beautiful

Gaining inspiration from Gu Yu, not only did he plan to sketch, he also wanted to read at least one hour every day. In order to read through all the books in Gu Yu’s library, Zhang Siyi created a schedule and organized the information on his phone. Even though his sketching and writing ability isn’t as beautiful as Gu Yu’s, Zhang Siyi firmly believed in the sentiment ‘practice makes perfect’. As long as Zhang Siyi set his mind to the task, he can grow to become as good as Gu Yu.

The next day, both Zhang Siyi’s sketchbook arrived and Gu Yu returned from his business trip. Since they agreed to keep their distance in the company, when Zhang Siyi saw him upon his return, he only quietly glanced at Gu Yu. In the second they made eye contact, all of their thoughts were conveyed and Zhang Siyi felt greatly relieved.

During his lunch break, Zhang Siyi opened his sketchbook, eager to start the first entry, but while tapping his fingertips, he stared at the blank page. With a furrowed brow, he contemplated what to write.

….. What is better to draw?

….. The morning’s breakfast?

….. Lunch at noon?

….. Eh, too plain.

With a sudden ‘eureka’ moment, an idea popped into Zhang Siyi’s mind and he snapped his fingers. He immediately picked up his pencil and leaned over the table top to draw in earnest…. Ok! It’s finished!

Sitting up straight, Zhang Siyi admired his newly sketched masterpiece. Looking all over the page, he thought something wasn’t quite right. Did he make Gu Yu look a bit ugly?

Wait, that’s not the point!

Since a sketchbook doesn’t have a lock feature like a mobile phone, Zhang Siyi suddenly regretted drawing Gu Yu on the first page. What if it was accidentally seen by others? What is he going to do?

As he started panicking about the situation that he got himself into, he heard Zhu Hongzhen’s voice next to him: “What are you drawing?”

Quickly covering the page with his arm and hand, Zhang Siyi turned to the side and answered him: “Nothing.”

Chuckling, Zhu Hongzhen smiled and said: “I have seen it!”

Zhang Siyi: “……” It’s over! How will he be able to explain the contents and his behavior? (*/ω\*)

Zhu Hongzhen took drink of water from his cup then said: “Don’t cover it up. I am not the first genius to know that you don’t draw well. Who is this, your self-portrait?

Zhang Siyi: “……”

Zhu Hongzhen continued to stab at him: “Looking at it closer, it really is bad. No one would believe you are an architect. When you went abroad, didn’t you practice the fundamentals?”

On one hand, listening to Zhu Hongzhen’s bluntness, Zhang Siyi wanted to cry. On the other hand, as no one could recognize the drawing, all of his anxiety was for nothing and Zhang Siyi wanted to laugh. He was definitely thinking about it too much. He relaxed and removed his hands from the sketchbook and said: “There were some classes, but we mostly used computer software. I didn’t practice much.”

Zhu Hongzhen: “Did you buy a sketch book to practice drawing?”

Zhang Siyi: “Hmm …”

Zhu Hongzhen: “Practice is good. As an architect, drawing is very important. You can let Yuan Zhicheng teach you! His drawings are excellent.”

After Zhu Hongzhen went on his way, Zhang Siyi examined his own picture again. Is it really that bad? He thought he drew Gu Yu’s handsome face, his expressive eyes and tender lips very well!

Sighing in dismay, Zhang Siyi consoled himself. Since no one could see what he saw in the drawing, no one would be able to guess the true relationship between him and Gu Yu.

In order keep Gu Yu’s identity hidden, Zhang Siyi wanted to use a nickname or something else to represent him. Brainstorming, he pulled out his phone, he loaded WeChat and decided to use ‘Little Fox.’

Below the drawing, he carefully wrote his first sentence: “From today onwards, to become as good of a person as Little Fox. -2015.4.23 ZSY.

Since they are together already, writing something like ‘to be worthy of you’ is a moot point. Also, Zhang Siyi didn’t want to write something like he had done with the cactus lamp previously because ‘someday in the future’ is something you can’t predict and may never happen.

Zhang Siyi already is aware of the gap between himself and Gu Yu. From this day onwards, Zhang Siyi simply wants to work hard along side the person he loves. After he finished writing, feeling content, Zhang Siyi closed his sketchbook and began the rest of the work day refreshed and full of confidence.

Naturally, since Gu Yu is back from his business trip, Tao Fei is also back. When Zhang Siyi got back to his desk, he received a message from Tao Fei: “Hey, are you there?”

Now that Zhang Siyi was able to express his feelings, his awkwardness towards Tao Fei had subsided. Zhang Siyi was serious in his reply: “Yes. What is it?”

Tao Fei asked: “Are you doing the tourism development design project in Yunnan now? If you have the preliminary preparation information, send it to me.”

Seeing the message, Zhang Siyi was remined of the project Gu Yu said he was going to assign him in order to work together with Tao Fei…. However, what is with Tao Fei’s attitude! He is completely treating me like a minion!

Sulking, Zhang Siyi compressed the background data into a file and forwarded it to Tao Fei. He neither received a reply nor thanks.

Thirty-minutes later, Zhang Siyi received another message from Tao Fei: “That’s it? Weren’t you supposed to do a case analysis?”

Zhang Siyi was so angry at Tao Fei’s attitude he snapped: “I was only given this assignment recently!” There was no response. Turning to the internet, Zhang Siyi searched for the case analysis data. After another thirty-minutes, Tao Fei messaged him: “Hey, do you want to go visit Yunnan to play?”

Zhang Siyi: “……” this guy…. calling people ‘yo’ or ‘hey’? Does he not know my name? What does he mean, play in Yunnan?

Since there isn’t a rush on the design of the project in Yunnan, Zhang Siyi is a little confused about what Tao Fei means. His confusion quickly turned into anger and annoyance when he read Tao Fei’s next message: “If you want to go, I’ll ask my brother for permission and I’ll take you with me.”

Zhang Siyi: “……” What? I’m much more familiar with him then you are! I’ve touched your brother’s ji-ji! Do you think I need your help to ask for permission!?

As much as Zhang Siyi wanted to say something, he knows he had to keep silent. Typing out his message, he pounded the keys to vent his anger: “The design is due next month, we don’t have time to play.”

Tao Fei: “Please! We have more than 20 days and this trip will only be a few days. What is the hurry?”

Zhang Siyi: “……” Since you are not in a hurry why don’t you find your own case analysis Ah!

Zhang Siyi ignored Tao Fei, but after a while, Gu Yu sent a message: “Do you want to go to Yunnan?”

Zhang Siyi: “Ah? Tao Fei really told you!  What did he say?”

Gu Yu: “He said that you want to go to Yunnan to do research.”

Knowing that Tao Fei was the one that wanted to go, Zhang Siyi was even more irritated: “I did not ask him to go to Yunnan! Tao Fei was the one who asked me first!”

 Gu Yu: “Oh. Well, if you want to go, I can make arrangements for a business trip.”

Thinking of another business trip with Gu Yu, Zhang Siyi felt warm and excited, but then he realized Gu Yu’s message said “you”. Zhang Siyi replied: “Will you go?”

Gu Yu: “I have other projects on my plate right now. This project is mainly under Tao Fei’s responsibility. I won’t participate in it.”

Zhang Siyi: “……” Is Tao Fei really the right person to be left in charge of a project?”

Gu Yu: “This project in Yunnan is quite large and on-site research is also necessary. You should consider it.”

Now that Zhang Siyi was determined to work hard and learn, he hemmed and hawed over what Tao Fei suggested. Since he mentioned ‘play’ and not ‘on-site research,’ Zhang Siyi doesn’t know what to think. Well, in fact, Zhang Siyi was simply making excuses. Since Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu just established their relationship, they are like newlyweds and want to spend as much time together as possible. Since Gu Yu had been away on a business trip, Zhang Siyi hasn’t spent time with him and now, Tao Fei is telling him to go on a business trip, and thus, spending less time with Gu Yu so of course he is reluctant to go.

Setting aside his personal dislike for Tao Fei, if he thought of Tao Fei idea of ‘play’ as ‘research’ he wouldn’t have made any objections. After a few minutes of consideration, Zhang Siyi felt he shouldn’t bring his personal feelings into his work and therefore, sent Gu Yu a positive confirmation.

Gu Yu: “Starting from this Saturday, I’ll give you one week.”

Zhang Siyi thought about the days of the week. Today is Thursday and I’m leaving Saturday, so one day to spend with Gu Yu. At least it is better than nothing.

Since Gu Yu also informed Tao Fei, Tao Fei informed Zhang Siyi of the status of their business trip: “We depart Saturday!”

Zhang Siyi: “Yes. I know!”

Tao Fei: “What is your mobile phone number? I will add you.”

After exchanging telephone numbers, Zhang Siyi saw that Tao Fei used a self-portrait as his icon.

Looking at the photo, Zhang Siyi couldn’t help but admire Tao Fei exquisite facial features. With his medium length hair, he has both female and male charm. In the photo, he is smiling with his raised hand covering half of his face. If one ignores the hand, his face looks like a heroic girl.

It occurred to Zhang Siyi that he hasn’t invited Tao Fei into the Borderless Forbidden City Team WeChat group that he set up for his colleagues. Although Zhang Siyi is not the leader of the team, as the person who created the group, he should have the ability to ‘add new members into the group.’

It has been one month since Tao Fei has been working at Borderless. Even though he has had a dispute with Gu Yu, his relationship with everyone else in the department is very good. Also, he is very popular among the female employees. However, because of Tao Fei’s temper and overly straightforward character, Zhang Siyi has some reservations. He doesn’t want Tao Fei to accidentally offend a colleague and disrupt the current harmonious state of the chat group. …..Maybe I should wait until someone in the group mentions it?

Wanting to make sure Tao Fei wouldn’t disrupt anything, Zhang Siyi looked into Tao Fei’s social media page to get to know him better. Zhang Siyi thought that there was no way Tao Fei would be able to integrate smoothly into the group as the first thing Zhang Siyi saw made him even more irritated.

There were a bunch of photos posted from the business trip he had with Gu Yu. In them, both were wearing suits and posing for the camera, Tao Fei had his arm intimately around Gu Yu shoulders in an ambiguous way. They were both so handsome that they looked like a couple. Although what is bothering Zhang Siyi isn’t the image itself, it is Tao Fei’s blunt message: “Here are the photos that you want to see! Big-T Department of Architecture most handsome and beautiful – Aren’t we a worthy match! Ha-ha-ha-ha!”

Chapter 116: Interaction

While caressing him, Gu Yu laughed and smiled at him: “I don’t dislike it. You can call me Big Devil every day.”

Zhang Siyi snapped at Gu Yu and said: “Can you not interrupt me!”

Waiting for him to continue, Gu Yu looked at him in the eyes and didn’t speak.

Taking a deep breath to regain his train of thought, Zhang Siyi calmed himself from his momentary outburst. He continued: “Before, when you came to me and I said ‘ I quit’ it was only because I was mad. Seeing Tao Fei with you all the time…. Well, I admit, I was a little jealous.”

Because of Zhang Siyi’s misunderstanding and therefore his avoidance of Gu Yu, it was the first time Gu Yu felt his surroundings were out of his control which made him very unsettled and anxious. Thinking about the events earlier in the month, Gu Yu sighed. This fool….

Now that they acknowledged each other’s love, Zhang Siyi heart softened and it was the first time he talked about his thoughts and feelings openly in front of Gu Yu. Like an animal showing its belly, because of trust, he was willing to show the most vulnerable parts in front of his loved one.

“Since it seemed Tao Fei was pursuing you and I thought you didn’t have any special feelings towards me, I said those things to you, but in fact, I still like architecture and I like you very much. My love isn’t so vulnerable.” Wanting to make sure there were no doubts, Zhang Siyi was very eager to explain his past behavior to Gu Yu. Now that he was able to reaffirm his honest feelings, Zhang Siyi felt relieved.

While listening, Gu Yu caressed Zhang Siyi back. When Zhang Siyi finished speaking, Gu Yu raised one of his hands to the back of Zhang Siyi head and pulled him down into a tight embrace. With their bodies pressed together, feeling gratified, Gu Yu sighed in satisfaction.

Zhang Siyi probably didn’t realize it, but the most fascinating physical feature about him was his waist. Gu Yu didn’t remember when it was exactly, but he saw Zhang Siyi dozing off radiating sex appeal. As he was laying on the lounge, his shirt was snagged and as a result of the material being scrunched up, his narrow torso and smooth back were reviled.

When Gu Yu saw him lying there, he had an impulse to go and touch him. He wanted to take hold of him and hug him. Since then, not only has Gu Yu subconsciously been watching Zhang Siyi, he has also been giving him preferential treatment. He wanted Zhang Siyi’s eyes to only focus on him and thus, his black belly nature was provoked. To elicit a reaction, he teased Zhang Siyi as much as it was possible.

The first time Gu Yu was able to hold Zhang Siyi more intimately was during the game at the annual meeting. As the game intensified, Gu Yu successfully was able to touch his waist several times. The more Gu Yu hands could feel him, the more he wanted to grab him and embrace him. More than once, Gu Yu fantasized about being honest with his feelings and wished he could directly undress him, caress him and hold him. Now, finally, Gu Yu’s got what he wanted.

Feeling Gu Yu’s hands gently stroke his back, Zhang Siyi wriggled a bit as he spoke softly: “After hearing about your worries today, I want to make sure you understand that this isn’t just a simple experience for me. I have thought about it very carefully and I want to be with you forever.” Zhang Siyi lowered his forehead and pressed it up against Gu Yu’s.

Gu Yu slightly raised his chin and easily kissed him lightly at first, then deeper and enthusiastically. With even more intensity, the kisses became wet and sloppy until they could no longer maintain their breath.

Feeling the eagerness of Gu Yu’s kisses, Zhang Siyi thought it was Gu Yu’s signal to move forward physically. As a man, Zhang Siyi felt like he needed to take the initiative and create the momentum necessary to progress further then they have, so he licked his lips and whispered seductively in Gu Yu’s ear: “I want to do it.”

A little surprised and quietly laughing Gu Yu asked a rhetorical question: “Haven’t we already started?”

Zhang Siyi: “……” Eh? We’ve already started? Gu Yu is about to have sex with him?

“……”  Zhang Siyi looked at him with a suspicious face: “You’re not going to tell me to sleep half way, are you?

With mirth, Gu Yu laughed out loud at Zhang Siyi’s simplicity. Not answering Zhang Siyi question, Gu Yu asked his own: “I would like to ask you, are you ready?”

Zhang Siyi: “Of course!

Gu Yu raised an eyebrow: “Is it possible to accept a relationship with a man so quickly?”

With a flushed face, Zhang Siyi proclaimed: “Because I like you!”
