Chapter 233: Extra 6

Of course, Father Zhang took it as a joke, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Although he agreed with Elder Gu, he also said they were both men. Everyone was helpless when they heard his response. Father Zhang just didn’t get it.

The wedding was very lively. Not long after, He Guoliang and his wife came to toast Zhang Siyi’s parents. Father Zhang casually asked: “My son introduced you to such an excellent daughter-in-law. Do you know of any excellent girls that you can introduced him to?”

As soon as the words came out, the faces of all the people at the table changed. Since He Chengtian had already informed his parents of Gu Yu’s relationship with Zhang Siyi, they felt bad when they heard Elder Zhang. He was still in the dark and it was rather awkward.

He Guoliang wiped the cold sweat from his brow and playing it up, he chuckled: “Ha, Zhang Siyi is too good. Who am I supposed to introduce to him? I’m sure there is a line of girls just waiting for him.”

Mother He also exaggerated and put Zhang Siyi in the limelight. They wanted to clearly convey to Father Zhang that since his son was too good, there wasn’t a girl worthy of him.

People loved to listen to good things that boosted their ego and Father Zhang was no exception. With the high praise about his son from the He family, his heart was happy and no longer said anything further.

As the drama became heated, the table worked together to put out any sparks and effectively change the topic. Despite the alarming drama, no storm erupted.

During the banquet, Zhang Siyi also saw Shen Hao. Since he was always on site as a supervisor during the week for his job, his tan and rough face was weathered and as a result, his image had really changed. During the past two years, time wasn’t on his side and he appeared many years older than he really was. Even though he was younger than thirty, his narrow views and his issues with money made him seem like a middle-aged man.

In contrast, Zhang Siyi continued to look youthful and handsome; an elegant scholar. Coupled with the influences from being overseas and his experience getting a Master’s degree, his temperament was completely different from ordinary people.

With different pursuits, people are destined to lead different lives and live in different realms. Before he met Gu Yu, Zhang Siyi thought special people were born to stand out. He didn’t know that with effort and constantly polish, he also became such a person.

Gu Yao’s festive wedding came to an end with joy. The He family’s will also have a celebration at the first of the month, but Gu Yu and Zhang Siyi couldn’t stay.

On the plane back to England, remembering the false alarm at the wedding, Zhang Siyi sighed: “My father was so pitiful…. “

Sensing Zhang Siyi’s guilt, Gu Yu comforted him: “Don’t feel so guilty over it.”

Zhang Siyi: “How can he not see when we have implied so clearly? He even asked Mr. He to introduce me to someone.”

When it comes to this matter, Gu Yu inner fear has come to surface. He was afraid that someone will take Zhang Siyi away from him. He grabbed Zhang Siyi’s hand and held it tightly.

Zhang Siyi smiled back at him and said: “You don’t have to be nervous. I’m abroad so there’s nothing else he can do about it.”

Frowning, Gu Yu was silent for a moment: “While we are in a foreign country, we should try to tell him slowly. Otherwise, this issue will be like a time bomb waiting to go off at any moment.”

Feeling the same, Zhang Siyi nodded. Almost all of the people around him, including his friends back home, knew that his significant other was a man. Having lived openly in England, he didn’t know how much of a breath of fresh air being honest and open truly was. He could never go back to the suffocation of the past and more importantly, he didn’t want to lie to parents anymore.

“But how do we do it?” Zhang Siyi asked.

Brooding over it, Gu Yu asked: “Your Father, is he in your circle of friends on WeChat?”

Understanding where Gu Yu’s was going with his train of thought, Zhang Siyi let out an audible ah: “Are you thinking we should let him see our photos?”

Gu Yu: “Give him a separate group that only he can see.”

Zhang Siyi: “…” This, that was also too cruel! (兀▽兀)

After returning to London, the two finalized their plans to come out to Zhang Siyi’s father, but before the plan was implemented, Zhang Siyi had to discuss it with his mother.

Although Mother Zhang initially insisted that she would neither accommodate nor interfere with their relationship, as a social butterfly and doting mother, she could not resist helping her son. Since Mother Zhang wanted to be part of his life, in the recent years, they exchanged photos and communicated frequently over social media.

After listening to Zhang Siyi’s plan, his mother was a little worried: “You can’t put everything online! It might be too much for him to handle. You better let me evaluate them first so I can make sure your father won’t have a heart attack.”

The meaning of her remark was obvious. How can his father be the only one looking at the photos? She wants to see his real-time-relationship too!

What else could Zhang Siyi say? His mother was asking and he has no objection. They were planning on taking it slowly with travel photos and meals and mundane photos of nature. Why would that be too stimulating for his father? Was his mother thinking about something she shouldn’t have? (=_=)

The task of coming out to Father Zhang via a photo montage had begun. At first Zhang Siyi only posted photos of his work environment, a few projects and London’s landscape.

Ten days later, Zhang Siyi’s mother made a video call and with a polite yet sarcastic tone said: “You seem to be a little conservative.”

Zhang Siyi calmly replied: “Mom, I have to go step-by-step.”

Mother Zhang: “Oh, so that’s why.”

Zhang Siyi: “What did Dad say? Did he have any reaction?”

Mother Zhang: “Yes. Today he told me at dinner that the British scenery was very nice. We also discussed visiting there when we retire.”

Zhang Siyi laughed: “Isn’t this ok? Let’s start talking about small things first, then gradually show him more. I can’t start with something intimate off the bat.”

After catching-up with personal events and discussing a few other things, Mother Zhang suddenly asked: “Where’s Gu Yu?”

Zhang Siyi casually pointed the iPad’s camera at an angle downwards: “Here. With work being so busy lately, he’s been pretty tired.”

While Zhang Siyi had been reclining on his bed talking to his mother, a sleepy Gu Yu was next to him. Since the heating in the room was on the warm side, Gu Yu only wore a loosely-fitted white cotton V-neck T-shirt. While his neck and collarbone were bare, one could see the definition of muscles throughout his torso, no to mention his arms. His unabashed position was rather sexy. Hearing voices, Gu Yu rolled onto his side and with sleepiness still evident in his eyes, he smiled at the camera and mumbled ‘Mom’. Then, nestling his head against Zhang Siyi and laying his arm around his waist, he went back to sleep.

When Mother Zhang saw the scene through her screen, she felt like blood was going to squirt out of her nose. As Zhang Siyi turned the screen around, his mother was trying to stay calm: “In the future, you can show pictures of Gu Yu to your dad.”

Zhang Siyi spontaneously responded: “You mean like this one?”

“Of course not! You can’t send this to your dad! Just send it to me!”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Mom, you seem to have exposed something. ( ̄_ ̄ |||)

The next day, in Zhang Siyi’s private circle of friends he took a risk and posted a profile picture of Gu Yu in an apron making a pizza. He was anxiously waiting for his mother to contact him about it because he wanted to know if his father had any reactions.

After waiting for a many hour without hearing from his mother, he peeked at the status of the image again. There was a ‘like’ pinned by his father!

Zhang Siyi couldn’t believe it. After several days in a row of posting various ‘action’ photos of Gu Yu doing the laundry, setting the quilts out to dry and cleaning, Father Zhang finally wrote a comment: “You have to do more housework. Don’t be so lazy.”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Really, that’s it? Does he have no idea!?

In reality, Zhang Siyi wasn’t in a rush to lay bare the truth. He could only be patient and continue to show ambiguous photos mixed with work and leisure. This pattern persisted for six months until there was a change. His mother had called him on the phone and nervously said: “Sisi, your father… I think there might be something wrong with him.”

Zhang Siyi: “What’s wrong?”

Mother Zhang: “These days, he is often staring into space alone in the living room clutching his phone. Once I saw him looking through the photos you posted.”

Zhang Siyi felt his heart in his throat: “What expression did he have? Was he angry or did he seem unhappy?”

Mother Zhang: “Neither. He was expressionless and sometimes, he looks lonely. I tried to ask him if there was something on his mind recently, but he wouldn’t tell me. I’m certain that it has something to do with you.”

Zhang Siyi knew that his father almost always discussed matters with his mother. In this case, since he had kept it to himself, indeed his actions were very uncharacteristic. Zhang Siyi browsed through the photos he posted in the group that he set up for his parents and confirmed that his recent photos weren’t too explicit. In fact, they were all normal scenic photographs.

—— Did the change from quantity to quality produce the desired effect? Did his dad finally figure it out?

Chapter 232: Extra 5

He Chengtian loudly said: “Uncle Zhang, I haven’t seen you for many years. I’m getting married next week. Come and celebrate with us!”

“He Chengtian is it?”  Holding his tea cup near, Father Zhang took a glance at the invitation: “Getting married.… Congratulations! Who is it….? huh?” Father Zhang took another look at the invitation then stated: “What a coincidence, your bride’s name is the same as Gu Yu’s sister.”

Mother Zhang tried hard to keep her expression neutral.

He Chengtian explained on his own initiative: “Uncle, the bride is Gu Yu’s sister.”

Zhang father smiled and nodded: “Oh. It’s his sister……. eh?” He put away his smile and looked at Zhang Siyi, stupefied: “Gu Yu’s sister, his sister… is not, not……”

He couldn’t say anything. Zhang Siyi had gone abroad with Gu Yu not his sister, Gu Yao. The two were separated and even though they were both of marriageable age, she wasn’t necessarily waiting for Zhang Siyi to come back!

To appease Father Zhang’s obvious shock and confusion, He Chengtian quickly interjected: “For the matchmaker, these are the finest black truffles and trotters that money can buy.”

Father Zhang’s thoughts were a mess. In the back of his mind, he always felt like something was off, but couldn’t put his finger on it. Since He Chengtian was standing in front of him, he set his questions aside and focused on the young man before him.

He Chengtian was able to talk circles around them and as a result, Father Zhang forget about his initial inkling. When he left, Zhang Siyi’s father was full of joy and praise: “In a flash, He Guoliang’s son has all grown up. He really was a talented businessman with a promising future!”

Afraid to make even a peep, standing next to him, Zhang Siyi remained silent. He was afraid his father would revisit the issue and further delve into the facts to seek answers.

However, his abnormal silence brought attention. Since Father Zhang thought his son was unhappy about He Chengtian being praised, Father Zhang, thinking that it would appease his son, offered his own opinion about Zhang Siyi.

Zhang Siyi’s father coughed then said something he rarely ever had; he boasted and complimented his son: “You are also a good person who has walked down the path to success. Your technical skills offer stability unlike the work in investments and finance.”

Nodding vigorously, like a chicken pecking rice, Zhang Siyi put on a good face.

Since there were too many trotters for them to eat, they gave away half to their neighbors and relatives. His parent’s also told Zhang Siyi to take some to the Gu residence. He couldn’t help grit his teeth and feel irritated over Gu Yu’s natural good luck.

On the day of the wedding, the groom made his proposal at the Gu residence. Zhang Siyi, as a family member of the Gu’s, also must be present.

Early in the morning, Gu Yao was still in her room fixing her make-up. Downstairs, the wedding party had assembled. Since there was a line of luxury cars along the road, it caused a sensation in the neighborhood.

As the iron gate was still broken, Zhang Siyi went down to open it. The last person who he ever thought to see was standing there holding the groom’s formal attire: Fu Xinhui!

Having best friends meet on this occasion was really ridiculous. Zhang Siyi tried to block him, but Fu Xinhui knew Zhang Siyi all too well. Fu Xinhui laughed and easily maneuvered around him.

At the top of the staircase at the entranceway, He Chengtian rushed over. Zhang Siyi was angry and loudly yelled: “Heartless Han, you traitor!!!”

Laughing, Fu Xinhui couldn’t get upset with him. He stepped forward and hooked Zhang Siyi’s neck with his arm and pulled him over: “Little Yi, don’t blame me. Later, I’ll be your brother-in-law!”

“Brother-in-law? Ha! Don’t get ahead of yourself!” Zhang Siyi spat while he pulled out his phone from his pocket and dialed Gu Yu: “The front line is lost! It’s up to you!”

Laughing, Gu Yu tried to scold him over the phone: “Useless…. You didn’t last a minute.”

Outside the front door, in the hallway, He Chengtian was shouting: “Open the door! Open the door!”

Thinking how best to take revenge, Gu Yu suddenly heard shouts from outside the door: “Hurry up and grab Zhang Siyi!”

Gu Yu shouted at the phone: “Zhang Siyi! Run!”

Zhang Siyi: “Ah…..?”

“…. Ah! What are you doing? Ah, ah! Gu Yu help me!!”

Gu Yu: “…”

In less than three minutes, not only was the front gate broken, the second door broke as well.

Holding onto his nearly torn jacket, Zhang Siyi hid behind Gu Yu and angrily said: “They are simply a group of animals!”

Gu Yu: “…”

Zhang Siyi was practically in tears. Completely apologetic and worried, he said: “I’m so sorry. I got you involved. Did you get hurt?”

Gu Yu touched his head and sighed: “Well, it’s all right.”

Who made Zhang Siyi his achilleas’ heel? The man who always had one foot in a hole….. Gu Yu never expected it to happen to him.

Fortunately, the issue wasn’t severe. The bridesmaid group teased him even more. Screaming and laughing, the bridesmaid’s asked the groom to perform various tasks and answer silly questions that were embarrassing before he was allowed to see his bride.

Wearing a white wedding dress and adorned with the most beautiful jewelry, Gu Yao was sitting on the bed waiting. When He Chengtian entered her room, his vision was met with a site to behold. A pair of bright eyes, like stars in the sky, and slightly parted lips  ……My bride is so beautiful.

Outside the doorway and in the hall, friends and family were crowded around to witness the bride and groom. Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu failed to secure a spot so they were behind the crowd. Standing on top of the sofa they watched from a distance and saw He Chengtian slowly approach her then kneel at her bedside. There was a slight tremble to his voice when he proclaimed: “Gu Yao, I am here before you.”

Even though it was short, He Chengtian’s voice revealed his true feelings. Gazing at him with affection, Gu Yao raised her hand to cover her mouth. This scene moved everyone.

Just as He Chengtian asked, “Will you marry me”, Gu Yu grabbed Zhang Siyi’s hand. Taking advantage of the fact that everyone’s attention that was focused on the bride and groom, Gu Yu suddenly kissed Zhang Siyi on the side of his face. When the proposal was accepted and the crowd broke out in crazy cheers and applause, it felt as if the crowd was cheering there for them

Zhang Siyi turned his head and as expected, saw Gu Yu grinning widely. He returned Gu Yu’s bright smile with his own.

As it was the brother’s duty to escort the bride to her wedding carriage, a path was opened for him. Gu Yu walked into her room and slowly approached  her. He gently lifted her off the bed and said: “I bought the food today. Now, you will have to buy food for someone else.”

Gu Yao scoffed audibly. Annoyed, she lifted her gloved hand and punched him on the shoulder: “Brother! You bastard….”

Clearly, the word was derogatory, but the diminishing tone and the emotion heard within the words was that of family bonds.

Listening to her, Gu Yu said: “Don’t cry. How can you let your future parents see you like that? You’ll have to come back without a job.”

Gu Yao shouted: “Hey! “

Laughing, Gu Yu teased her: “Remember, as long as your brother is home, there will be a bowl of rice waiting. “

Gu Yao: “…”

Step by step, Gu Yu escorted her downstairs steadily. Behind, preventing any missteps, Zhang Siyi held up the train of Gu Yao’s wedding dress.

The sound of firecrackers resounded in the air. The rowdy children in the neighborhood all cheered and shouted: “The bride is coming!” The deafening sound of fireworks masked Gu Yao’s joyful sniffles.

Located at the best hotel in Ningcheng, Zhang Siyi’s parents went directly to the wedding reception. As they went to look at their seating assignments, they were surprised to find out that they were seated at the Gu’s family’s table.

Since Father Zhang was ignorant of the truth, he asked Mother Zhang: “Aren’t we He Guoliang’s friends? Why are we sitting with the Gu’s family members?”

Mother Zhang coughed lightly: “I don’t know. The matchmaker isn’t always seated at the main table so we are seated here.”

Since Zhang Siyi was also the matchmaker for He Chengtian, Father Zhang didn’t let it go this time. “He Chengtian came to our house to give Zhang Siyi his matchmaker gift. Doesn’t that mean we should be sitting with the groom’s side of the wedding party?”

Mother Zhang couldn’t find any faults with his reason. She offered an excuse: “Uh, maybe there were too many guests on the groom’s side?”

Father Zhang thought for a while then spoke up: “Also, they are business people. We have more in common with them…..”

Feeling uneasy and restless, he continued: “I haven’t seen Gu Mingfeng is so many years, I don’t know what to say to him. It’s rather embarrassing.”

Mother Zhang scolded him and snapped: “You have been in office as a politician for so many years, what is so embarrassing about seeing someone again?”

Father Zhang wanted to defended himself: “It’s different. In the past, we only met at work and not as friends. I haven’t really gotten to know him, so I don’t know what to talk about. In fact, in comparison I’ve talked more with his son Gu Yu then the Elder.”

While Mother and Father Gu continued to help with guests, Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu approached the table to sit.

As they sat, Gu Yu greeted Father Zhang, and asked him: “How is Uncle Zhang’s health recently?”

Father Zhang nodded and replied: “I’m very good. With a wedding to deal with, aren’t you the one who is busy at home these days?”

Chuckling, Gu Yu smiled and said: “I’m happy to be busy.”

Since they were on the topic of the wedding, Zhang father asked: “Now that your sister is married, when will you consider you own affairs? Don’t your parents worry?”

Gu Yu paused and expressively said: “Siyi and I are still working hard in a foreign country.”

The direction that the conversation was going in scared Zhang Siyi to death and made him worry.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the strait-laced Father Zhang never had the capacity to think of the reality behind their relationship. He commented: “Oh well, don’t let my Zhang Siyi drag you down. If you hadn’t gone with him, you probably would already be married.”

Gu Yu: “Uncle Zhang, what do you mean? I would like to thank Siyi for staying by my side for so many years. When Siyi earns his Royal Architect license we will go back to Haicheng and start a business. I want him to take part and accompany me hand in hand.”

Smiling, Father Zhang happily said: “It is a good thing for young people to think of the future. If you two can take care of each other, I’ll feel relieved.”

Zhang Siyi: “…”

Thanks to Gu Yu’s eloquence, he told him the truth without telling him the truth.  Zhang Siyi really wanted to worship him.

When Zhang Siyi looked up, Father and Mother Gu were approaching the table. Zhang Siyi’s parents immediately stood up and gave formal introductions. After sitting down, Zhang Siyi’s father pointed his finger towards Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu and said: “I was talking with them. They have a very close relationship. In fact, it’s so good that they want to start a business together.”

Listening to Father Zhang’s heartfelt emotions, everyone was silent. While Father and Mother Gu knew the truth of the matter, the Zhang family did not and they didn’t know whether or not they should agree with the uninformed Father Zhang.

Since they hadn’t planned to tell Zhang Siyi’s father about the truth yet, Father Gu didn’t want to cause a problem and yet, he wanted to help his son. All he could do was offer an anecdote: “Yeh, if Siyi was a girl, I would want my son to marry him.”

Chapter 231: Extra 4

After a brief internship, with the expected salary of thirty-eight-thousand pounds a year, Zhang Siyi signed a two-year contract with Richard Rogers. Although he was able to live very well in London with his salary, the British pound had fallen in value year by year and in terms of a domestic salary, it equated to approximately three-hundred-thousand Yuan.

From a financial point of view, earning a Master’s degree wasn’t worth the cost. However, Zhang Siyi never regretted it because he no longer cared about the economics of it. Every day, he was full of enthusiasm and hope for his career. In order to pay off the debt that he owed Gu Yu as soon as possible, other than living expenses, Zhang Siyi voluntarily deposited his wages directly into Gu Yu’s account.

It used to bother Zhang Siyi to have his finances be controlled by someone else but now, he has changed his views. There were so many couples in the world that when married, the wife took care of family finances. Since Zhang Siyi imagined Gu Yu as his wife and even though he didn’t lack money, it didn’t prevent Zhang Siyi from thinking; Gu Yu was responsible for being beautiful and he was responsible for making money to support the family.

Now that they were both working on the job, they didn’t have a summer vacation. Zhang Siyi and Gu Yu were only able to return to China during Christmas break. This time, not only did they return to visit family, they went back home for the wedding of Gu Yu’s Sister,

Yes, after two years of courtship, He Chengtian and Gu Yao were finally getting married. In addition to having a Bridal shower in Ningcheng, their wedding and reception was held in Haicheng. In order for Gu Yu and Zhang Siyi to attend, the parents of the couple specially selected a good day after Christmas.

After arriving at the Haicheng airport, Gu Yu’s to-be brother-in-law came to pick them up and drove them to the rehearsal dinner being held at an ethnic restaurant in the city center.

As soon as they walked into the facility, Zhang Siyi saw an unexpected person inside!

“Heartless Han! Why are you here?” Zhang Siyi looked at Fu Xinhui in surprise.

Sitting next to Fu Xinhui was He Chengtian’s sister He Xueying. They stood and greeted Zhang Siyi. Not having seen each other for more than three and a half years, Fu Xinhui gave Zhang Siyi a bear hug. The two were almost moved to tears!

“I’m back from Australia!” Fu Xinhui exclaimed.

Zhang Siyi peeked at He Xueying and He Chengtian: “I know you’ve come home, but why are you here with them?”

Fu Xinhui smiled. Hooking He Xueying’s shoulder and pulling her close, he said: “Oh, I haven’t told you. I have a girlfriend!”

Raising her hand and offering a V for peace, He Xueying gave Zhang Siyi a bashful smile: “Sorry, I stole your best friend.”

Zhang Siyi: “… Holy shit! “

Fu Xinhui grinned and said: “All right, sit down. Let’s chat.”

Having ordered ahead for all of the guests, He Chengtian had picked a restaurant that specialized in middle eastern cuisine. With a table full of kebabs, Zhang Siyi bit into a chunk of lamb while talking with Fu Xinhui and He Xueying.

As it turned out, they met and ended up becoming a couple because of Zhang Siyi. When Fu Xinhui first went to Australia after his family’s bankruptcy, he had asked He Xueying to help him get situated.

When she learned the Fu family’s experience, she was very sympathetic. With continuous contact and communication, he Xueying gradually fell in love with Fu Xinhui’s gentle and considerate nature. Feeling cherished at the lowest point in life, Fu Xinhui also fell in love.

The year that He Chengtian and Gu Yao had met and started dating, He Xueying pretended to return to Australia for vacation. In fact, she went looking for Fu Xinhui. When the two returned to China together, the first thing Fu Xinhui wanted to do was find his ‘son.’ He was caught by surprise when he discovered that Townhouse was being taken care of by his future in-laws!

Giving himself a pat on the back, Zhang Siyi sighed. Was the world just small, or was fate so wonderful?

Although he wasn’t happy about the secrete love affair, Zhang Siyi sincerely gave his blessing.

After eating for a while, Zhang Siyi suddenly realized something and shouted: “Wait! So, you two are here because of me. Am I your matchmaker?”

Fu Xinhui laughed: “That’s right.”

While gesturing with a kebab in his hand excitedly, Zhang Siyi joked with He Chengtian and with exuberance he said: “In my past life, I must have owed you something because my fate’s red string is being manipulated by you. Remember to send me eighteen pairs of pig trotters, no thirty-six! No cheating! Ha-ha-ha!“

According to an old custom of Ningcheng, the matchmaker collected eighteen trotters as a thank-you gift. He Chengtian laughed: “Rest assured; you will get your payment.”

Laughing together, the topic naturally moved onto other issues and Zhang Siyi asked Fu Xinhui about his work.

Since his graduation last year, Fu Xinhui has been in China. While Fu Xinhui and He Xueying were abroad, they found a lack of office and school supplies and felt there was a business opportunity here. Upon their return to China, the two started a small trading company that specialized in overseas orders.

Even though he started in a seemingly non complementary field of work as architecture, in reality, utilizing his creative skills and design background, he was able to put together a plan step-by-step and put it into practice and build a new efficient and smooth-running business. Despite it being brand new, the company was very productive and his income was quite impressive.

As for Fu Xinhui’s uncle, he was in jail. His father, after spending a modest two years living simply out of the spotlight, was able to utilize his connections and resell his bank assets for large amounts. As a result, he regained his foothold in the financial sector and was gaining momentum. Fu Xinhui managed his company while helping his father and sister revive the Fu family’s business. By his side was He Xueying, a beautiful and understanding women. Like a perpetual warm and welcoming spring breeze, Fu Xinhui didn’t think his life could get any better and feel any happier.

Also relaying his current situation, Zhang Siyi happily told Fu Xinhui about his time studying for his Master’s at Big A and his upcoming job at Richard Rogers architectural Firm. In addition, he spoke of his aspiration to earn a Royal Architect’s license and wouldn’t return to China until he got one.

“Oh, so, the next time you come home, will you be a Royal Architect?” Fu Xinhui half joked.

“Ha-ha, maybe!” Zhang Siyi didn’t know for sure. As the legendary Royal Architect license was always just a distant daydream in the past, it was the last thing he expected to have so close by at his doorstep.

After dinner, in order to give Zhang Siyi his matchmaker’s gift, He Chengtian asked Zhang Siyi for his bank number.

“What kind of payment are you going to give me? Why do you need my account number?” Zhang Siyi enquired then quipped: “I expect nothing less than the thirty-six trotters. No cash substitutes!”

Just as He Chengtian lifted his hand to smack the back of Zhang Siyi’s head, he realized the fact that Zhang Siyi was his ‘sister-in-law’. Pausing in mid-air, he put his hand back in his pocket and laughed heartily: “Stop joking around and just wait for the money!”

Since Zhang Siyi joked about the matchmaker’s gift, he assumed it wouldn’t amount to much and quickly forgot about it. Later that night, he was shocked to see the message from his bank: “Saving account deposit: For the matchmaker: 180,000.”

Wide-eyed and staring intently, Zhang Siyi’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull. He quickly went to Gu Yu and exclaimed: “Fuck! He Chengtian send me 180,000! Why is it so much!?”

Gu Yu glanced at him briefly and laughed: “They gave away millions in dowry gifts. Your one-hundred-eighty-thousand is but a puny fraction. Besides, you are Gu Yao’s family. Don’t be surprised.”

Zhang Siyi: “…” Shit!  No wonder there are so many matchmaking agencies! The fees are so fucking good!

After reading the text message a few more times and relishing the money, Zhang Siyi transferred it to Gu Yu’s account.

Looking at the message displayed on his phone screen, Gu Yu asked: “Why did you give it to me?”

Zhang Siyi sharply replied: “I still owe you money.”

Gu Yu laughed out loud. Rubbing his head, he commented: “Good boy.”

A few days later, unexpectedly, He Chengtian appeared at Zhang Siyi’s house to deliver the reward. Staring at the basket of meat products and other food-stuffs, Zhang Siyi exclaimed: “You really came! But, it was just a joke!”

He Chengtian was also there to deliver a wedding invitation. He laughed and said: “Getting a sister-in-law wasn’t a joke! I’m here with my fullest sincerity.”

From inside, Mother Zhang came to see what the commotion was at the door. When she saw He Chengtian, she understood who it was and quickly told Father Zhang to come to the entranceway and greet him: “He Guoliang son is visiting. Don’t you remember him?”
